The Chara Ministry

“Chara” is the Greek word for “deep joy.”  Angel developed The Chara Ministry in order to serve the community by providing resources and make accessible the healing available through God’s love.  Through a partnership with individuals and local ministries,  Chara's mission is to help men and women be transformed by God’s truth, captured by His love, and set free by the renewal of their minds.

The passion of The Chara Ministry is to encourage, empower, and equip the body of Christ to mature in faith. By walking in His love, and working in unity, our goal is to lift up Jesus’ name and release His healing.

One of the ongoing programs of The Chara Ministry is “Formed in His Image”, which is geared towards assisting women on the journey of freedom in relation to personal identity and body image.

The Chara Ministry's Core Values:

We believe the major key to victorious living is God's truth revealed through Christ in the Holy Scriptures.

We depend on the power of prayer as a vehicle for transformation.

We honor the uniqueness of each individual and their God-given destiny.

We value wholeness and inner healing in the body of Christ that produces joy and rest.

We affirm unity in the body of Christ to bring God's purposes here on earth.

The Chara Ministry's Doctrinal Beliefs:

  • We believe the Bible to be divinely inspired and the only authoritative Word of God.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity of Christ; in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His resurrection, His ascension into heaven, and His personal return in power and glory.
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life and is empowered for ministry with spiritual gifts.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ.

The Chara Ministry Advisory Board:

Lynn Bryant- Lynn has a passion to know Jesus and to make Him known!  For the past ten years she has served as the director of Athens First United Methodist Church's International Student Ministry where she has ministered to hundreds of international college students and scholars from around the world.  Previously, she served as the coordinator of prayer ministry in her home church and was actively involved in prison ministry for a number of years.  In 2004, Lynn invited Angel to give a testimony to her international Bible study group about healing prayer and realized there was much need for healing in her own life!  She subsequently participated in multiple healing prayer sessions and received emotional/spiritual healing related to deep-seated family issues.  As a result, significant relationships were restored and Lynn discovered new freedom in Christ that enhanced her ministry too!  Since that time, she has obtained training in various healing prayer courses and in spiritual direction.  In 2011, Lynn sensed God calling her to join the Chara Ministry team.  He is using her administrative and pastoring gifts to further the vision of Chara.

Lynn is a native Athenian and retired from the University of Georgia after 32 years of service.  She and Dwayne, her husband of over 30 years, have two grown children, Andy and Michelle, and a grandson who is their pride and joy!

Lisa Mason- Lisa’s passion is to minister life and freedom in Christ Jesus and to see captives set free through healing and wholeness. To be a part of a ministry that believes that “God has the power and desire to renew our minds so that we can know His truths, walk victoriously, and embrace the abundance He has for our lives” is a joy and a privilege.

Her life verse is, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (I Thessalonians 5:16).   One of her favorite quotes is, “If you would live in victory…you must refuse to be dominated by the seen and the felt.” (Amy Carmichael).

Lisa taught elementary school for a total of ten years and loves children and students of all ages.  In addition, she was a campus minister for ten years, most of which were served alongside her husband and partner in ministry, Lee Mason, on the University of Georgia campus. They also ministered to the young adults/young families at The Church of the Apostles in Atlanta prior to their move back to Athens to plant a church, Classic City Community Church, in 2008.  The church’s mission is to honor the greatness of Jesus Christ by growing spiritually, living authentically, and participating in His purposes, and they are emblazoned to see Athens and the surrounding area changed for eternity! Lisa and Lee have two sons, Daniel and Zander, who are delights to their souls and lives.
